“We asked my son if he wanted to try a week of basketball camp with coaches and players he watched all season. Nope, Camp Newark Museum for all six weeks–the only response we would get. So, like a good parent, as soon as the registration page went live, I went to work and he was enrolled in Camp Newark Museum again. All. Six. Weeks. I promise, I won’t bore you with all the reasons why this camp rocks. I will give you a couple of broad strokes and then I’ll try to capture the magic, the intangibles that enhance the program beyond measure. Camp Newark Museum is a S.T.E.[A.]M. program. We all know S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs and their accolades–giving our children the tools for tomorrow by introducing concepts and experiences that promote core competencies and excitement about the hard sciences. Camp Newark Museum is joining a handful of trailblazing programs with adding the [A.], The Arts. The children don’t just study stars and dissect cow eyes, they sing, they dance, they study world-renowned and little-known artists, they draw and paint and mold, glass-blowing, maker-spacing, soul-inspiring ART. It’s outrageously wonderful.”
“So I am sure you have a countdown for summer camp....wanted to let you know that my kids does too. He is having a real tough time at daycare, so we have a new calendar at home to mark when he gets to go to camp. Camp Newark Museum (his other school as he calls it) is 65 days away. He is celebrating. He even wore his camp t-shirt to daycare today!”
“This is our family's first experience with Newark Museum's Summer Camp program. A good friend highly recommended your program and now it makes perfect sense! My son is a natural born scientist--very inquisitive and eager to learn how things work. After completing the fork circuit project, his wheels are still spinning, now trying to figure out how to apply to making a toy car run on its own. Thank you for offering this amazing experience of discovery and mind expansion at such an affordable price. This was our first year but it won't be our last. Thank you!”
“Dear Camp Newark Museum,
I love you, I really do. After picking up our son, today, he asked very politely and quietly, "You wouldn't let me stay up to 9:15 tonight, would you?"
“What, baby?” I asked.
"Could I stay up until 9:15? I'd like to look at Saturn and tonight I could get a pretty good view, it's going to be near the moon."
So at 9pm, we carried out his telescope--seeing it up in the yard and pointed out just to the right of the moon. AND SAW SATURN FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!!!
Thank you Camp Newark Museum, you’re doing something very, very special and it's very much appreciated!”
“Our boy bounds down your stairs each morning, forgetting to say, Bye. I watch behind him thinking it must be awfully fun, so that I don't take it too personal. What more could a parent ask for? Pick up is my favorite moment of the day, I love hearing about the adventures... today's deserve mention. Copper tape used to conduct current to LED lights? Filtering polluted pond water with cheesecloth and cotton balls? Learning how to knit? Next thing you know, he'll be etching graffito or something ;) Here's all I'm going to say... We couldn't be more thrilled to see our boy so engaged and happy. As his summer journal fills with adventures, his memories grow and grow. If smiles were dimes and giggles were quarters, this little boy's summer bank would be full. And, it’s only week three.”
