Caesar Winslow, age 18, is the charismatic leader, and unlike his friends, he has a chance to leave Brooklyn and attend a prestigious university. He is torn by his desire to experience a new life and fear of leaving the only world he’s ever known, he has 72 hours.
An original feature length comedy created by Reel Works Teens and professional mentors. It started as a documentary by student filmmaker Bilal Ndongo in the 2013 spring Reel Works Lab program and was chosen for development into a fiction project.
Twelve talented teen filmmakers worked with improv director Jenna Weinberg to expand the stories in the original documentary into new characters based on their own lives. Filmmaker/director Raafi Rivero joined the team to develop the character and story sketches into a fluid script.
SPECIAL EVENING ADDITION - A Newark Museum Original
Girls on the Reel: This collaboration between the Newark Museum and Women in Media-Newark provided five Newark high school girls with an opportunity to take three 4-hour stop-motion animation workshops in the Museum’s MakerSPACE. Taking inspiration from the global galleries along with workshops in plot analysis, design theory, and iconography studies, the team was able to execute a three-minute film, one that aims to be a visual symphony for and about womenkind.
Each scene is filled with symbolism meant to provoke, enlighten, and enliven the viewers. Although labor-intensive, each scene has been carefully mapped out so as provide the illusion of movement out of paper! Adebunmi Gbadebo, Kirsten Mayer, Anna Muñiz
