Yakety
Yak: Tibet is Back!
Thanksgiving Family Festival
The
Newark Museum presented its annual Thanksgiving Family Festival
on Friday, November 28, 2003. Sixteen hundred people enjoyed Yakety
Yak: Tibet is Back and explored The Newark Museum's new Tibet Information
Zone. The festival included a special performance by the Chaksampa
Tibetan Dance and Opera Company. Children had their pictures
taken with live yaks
and played inside a Tibetan festival
tent. Families dressed in nomad
costumes and participated in art
workshops where they made yak masks and Tibetan saddle packs.
Visitors also enjoyed exploring The Newark Museum's world-renowned Tibetan
galleries, including a Tibetan
Buddhist altar, consecrated by His Holiness, the XIV Dalai
Lama.
This
event was made possible through the generous support of The Freeman Foundation
and The National Endowment for the Arts.
