Tibetan Mural is Completed
Tibetan
Artist Phuntsok Dorje, designer and creator of the acclaimed
Tibetan
Buddhist altar located in the Museum's
Tibetan galleries, has completed a mural
depicting the vast snowy mountains, nomad tents and rural villages of
Tibet. This mural will be the centerpiece of the new Tibet Information
Zone, an interactive educational resource where individuals, families
and school groups can gain valuable information on Tibetan life and
culture, as well as learn about the Museum's extensive and world-renowned
collection of sacred and secular Tibetan objects. In addition to artist
Phuntsok Dorje's mural of the yaks, mountains and nomads of Tibet, there
will soon be fur hats to try on, a tea "party" to play with and Tibetan
films, books and games.
Funding
for the Tibet Information Zone at The Newark Museum is made possible
by the Freeman Foundation. Special underwriting for Phuntsok Dorje's
mural has been given by Joan Daeschler.
