Ballantine House: House and Home
The Ballantine House is a unique example of genteel urban life in Newark during the Victorian era. Period rooms and galleries are furnished with objects from the Museum's Decorative Arts Collection, illustrating how the idea of "home" developed in the 19th century. (45 minutes)
Explore the Museum's six collections: American Painting & Sculpture; Decorative Arts; Arts of Africa; Arts of Native North America; Classical Arts; and the Asian collection, which includes a Tibetan Buddhist Altar consecrated by His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama.
Traverse the arts of the East. Japanese prints, a Chinese interior and majestic Indian sculpture as well as the courtly and religious arts of Korea and Tibet provide a rich visual journey. (60 minutes)
Tibet: A Lost World
Encounter the oldest and most diverse collection of Tibetan art in the Americas. The centerpiece of this eleven–gallery tour is a Tibetan Buddhist Altar consecrated by His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama. (45 minutes)
Picturing America: American Art from the Collection
Explore the rich historical and social context of selected masterworks in an introduction to one of the nation's most outstanding collections of American art, ranging from the colonial era to the present. (60 minutes)
African American Artists
Discover African American artists' outstanding contributions toward artistic, political and social change, from the days of the New Republic to the present. (30 minutes)
Galleries of Ancient Mediterranean Cultures
Learn about the cultures of the Ancient Mediterranean world: Egypt, the Near East, Greece and Rome. Study the beautifully crafted objects that reflect the everyday lives and beliefs of the people of antiquity. Of particular interest is the outstanding Eugene Schaefer Collection of Ancient glass. (30 minutes)
Arts of Africa
Highlighting the range and diversity of the African artistry, this new installation presents works from throughout the continent and examines a range of themes, including spirituality and devotion, the human form in art, dress and adornment, masquerade, everyday objects and emblems of rank and status. (45 minutes)
Dynamic Earth: Science Tour
Investigate Earth's dynamic forces and the changes they create as you delve into the Museum's fascinating exhibit, Dynamic Earth: Revealing Nature's Secrets, where the natural sciences come alive through hands–on activities and multimedia displays. (60 minutes)
