The Mini Zoo at the Newark Museum is home to more than 100 live animals, representing 50 exotic species. Our thirteen exhibits are indoors and are the homes of small animals native to habitats throughout the world.
Our collection encompasses many types of animals, including fish, invertebrates, reptiles, mammals and birds. Some of the animals on display have been injured in the wild and rehabilitated but are unable to be released back into the wild.
We are dedicated to caring for our animals' minds and bodies. In addition to the finest veterinary and nutritional care, our zookeepers are skilled in providing interesting and exciting activities for the animals.
Visit the Mini Zoo today and see common marmosets, boa constrictors, dwarf mongooses, western chuckwallas, an eastern screech owl, a red bellied piranha, an emperor scorpion and many others.
Mini Zoo Programming
The Mini Zoo's animal collection also contains an additional thirty exotic animals that are not visible to the public. They are used exclusively for a wide selection of public programming, serving adults and children of all ages, including children with special needs.
