READY OR NOT
2014 New Jersey Arts Annual: Fine Art
June 27 - September 7, 2014
The New Jersey Arts Annual is a unique series of exhibitions highlighting the works of visual artists in the state in the areas of fine arts and crafts. One exhibition takes place each year in either fine arts or crafts, in altering sequence. This exhibition series is open to any artist currently living or working in New Jersey.
The Arts Annual series is cosponsored by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts in partnership with major museums around the state including the Montclair Art Museum, the Morris Museum, the Newark Museum, The Noyes Museum of Art, and the New Jersey State Museum.
For the 2014 New Jersey Arts Annual in Fine Art, the Newark Museum will encompass a cross section of contemporary art production by New Jersey artists. Rather than a specific theme, the exhibition itself—a roster of New Jersey artists at all points of their career—will be the curatorial premise and the subject of this show. The selected artworks are set out to showcase the current state of contemporary art and varied artistic practices both locally and nationally.
Ready or Not will focus on installation art, video work, participatory-based art, performance, film and sound, but will also consider more traditional media such as photography, drawing and painting. The show seeks to emphasize experimental approaches in contemporary art and ways in which interventions in space can transform the viewer’s experience and interaction. As such, the exhibition will consider site-specific works not only in the main suite of changing exhibition spaces, but also in unconventional spaces within the Museum’s campus as plausible areas for creation and display.
